A stranger-than-fiction tale of an American power company’s
attempts to regulate electricity in the former Soviet Republic of
Georgia. Reluctant to pay steep prices for the electricity they used
to get for free, the Georgian people (and businesses and government)
go to just about any length to avoid it – including elaborately
rigged nests of hazardous wiring, blackmail, bribery and murder.
Determined to restore order, the power company’s employees are
fighting back – one debt collector shuts down an airline’s power
supply just before a plane lands, prompting them to pay up
immediately. Paul Devlin’s engaging and fast-paced black comedy
illuminates the state of a nation in upheaval.
