Guestbook Thank you for visiting the Power Trip site. Please let us know what you think. Dear Paul, We\\\'ve met at Tribeca festival in NY in 2003. Now when my country is at war with the brutal force, I suddenly thought of your film which I liked very much. The country had changed unbelievably since you made the film. You wouldn\\\'t recognise it. AES\\\'s efforts were not in vain - illuminated and rebuilt Tbilisi (and not only Tbilisi but other cities too) has never ever been as beautiful as it is now. Georgia\\\'s success with the help of US and Europe angered Russia so much that they started a war against my little and beautiful country trying to throw it back to those dark and corrupted times you\\\'d filmed. We must not let them do this. Maya Todua <otaridi@gmail.com> Georgia - Sunday, August 24, 2008 Amazin film, Paul you\\\'re an awesome director! I have only been able to watch a trailer, but i really want to see the whole thing. I`m going to Georgia next october and i think this documentary would be very helpfull to get to know the reallity of the zone. ¿Is there any way of getting it down here in south america? ¿Or any chance that you`ll make a non-educational DVD version? ¿Any advices you can give to me? Paulina Hernández <polahernandez@gmail.com> Chile - Tuesday, April 11, 2006 I'm in the Enviornmental Club at Dupont Manuel High School in Louisville, Kentucky. We are planning a film festival at the beginning of April at the University of Louisville, and I was wondering if we could show "Power Trip".Thank you for allowing us this oppertunity. Porter Stevens <diver@kettles.us> - Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 15:08:26 (EST) Congratulations on the documentary. I first saw it more than two years ago when I started writing my PhD on the experience of electricity market liberalisation in Argentina (not half as bad as that of Georgias it must be said!). Anyway, I think the film succeeds on various levels - not least of all in highlighting all the main issues and conflicts surrounding the privatisation and foreign ownership of public services in poor, and in this case, former communist countries. In fact, I have just included a reference to Power Trip in my editorial for a special edition of an academic journal on the topic of sustainability of elec. market reforms in less developed countries. Amongst others, we are publishing a paper on electricity market reforms in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikstan and Uzbekistan. By looking at the incentive structures for privately owned distribution companies and the lack of operational transparency or regulatory independence, its remarkable how much the authors reflect the themes documented in your excellent film. Id be interested to know if there has been any follow-up to the situation in Georgia, and if not, what your next project plans are James Haselip <james.haselip@imperial.ac.uk> London, UK - Saturday, February 25, 2006 I very much want to see the film. I just heard about it yesterday from a friend of Paul's who was shooting a TV show in my home for PBS (Real Simple) and mentioned the film. On the eve of the Enron trial I wanted to add a comment regarding all the companies like AES that did good work around the world and are now in financial difficulties due to Enron. I was an executive of such a company (Mirant which recently emerged from bankruptcy). Like AES, we did everything by the book, but many like me are now pursuing new careers-I run a bed and breakfast in Savannah. I too helped to develop infrastrcuture in many foreign countries around the world-Brazil, Chile, England, Germany, Spain, Australia, China, and California. It was exciting, difficult, rewarding and in the end disheartening. Kim Heinz <kimheinz@comcast.net> Savannah, GA USA - Sunday, January 29, 2006 Dear Paul I always remember your wonderful documentary Powertrip and I hope you are already working on your next film, so you will have a good reason to visit Berlin again for the Berlinale. In case you come here you really should call me ( 0173 2361400) or send me a message. Good luck and all the best for you yours Margita Margita Theurer <doramar@t-online.de> Berlin, Deutschland - Wednesday, January 25, 2006 i have just seen 'power trip'here in australia. having experienced something of tbilisi first hand and with having strong memories of the difficulties gerogians face, i found your film to be wonderful, extraordinary, complex, passionate and intellectually charged. your fine film reminds me of the bravery required to speak out and stand up for one's beliefs in that environment which is highly charged, and in many ways extremely difficult and at times potentially dangerous. in that context and with the obvious support of some of the many extraordinary georgians you encountered, as did I in my time there, you managed to create a film of lasting significance with a special kind of beauty. william kelly australia - Thursday, December 22, 2005 Unfortunately I did not have a chance to record this film from PBS couple months ago and now its too expansive for me to buy DVD. I just want to show this film to my fiancé. If anybody has home video copy of this film and can help to me I will appreciate. I wish this film would be played on CNN !!! William Milz <wmilz@nwtc.edu> Marinette, WI USA - Wednesday, September 07, 2005 I've heard only good things about this movie, but I'm kinda pissed there isn't at least a hint as to when we can buy it. I think I'll go to eBay and purchase a bootleg of it there. Birdy Num Nums <birdy-num-nums@myway.com> Pasadena, CA USA - Thursday, August 18, 2005 This website and this film is all the more powerful to me with the recent and tragic death of participant Zaaleko Kikodze. Zaal was a great man and a tremendous influence to virtually every person he knew. I am grateful to have this film as one in my collections of Zaaleko memories. Georgia has lost a great man. Thank you. Rachel Connell <rconnell@exeter.edu> Portsmouth, NH United States - Sunday, July 24, 2005 Upon seeing Power Trip, if you wish to learn more about Georgia, visit Kartuli.com. Kartuli.com launched a new Georgian Website Portal / Georgian Website aimed at uniting the Georgian people, Georgian Expatriates and Georgian Communities of the World. Kartuli.com was designed to bring all Georgian people and Georgian expatriates from the Republic of Georgia living around the world together for any purpose, such as finding Georgian friends, dating, reading Georgian news, Georgian sports, learning about Georgian History, etc. With a rapidly growing member base and a superior technological and design advantage, Kartuli.com is quickly gaining momentum and becoming a serious contender in the online Georgian Portal area. Alinka NYC, NY USA - Monday, July 18, 2005 Fantastic film! I loved it! Great director (I wish I had a husband like you!), great characters, thought-provoking story while you are laughing and crying at the same time, sensitivity intelligence, powerful picures. I would like to buy the DVD and the soundtrack as well. Ziuta Budapest, Hungary - Saturday, May 21, 2005 Very thought-provoking. Very powerful. Great work. Sue Tytgat <ktytgat@aol.com> Oklahoma City, OK USA - Wednesday, May 04, 2005 Emocionado por vuestro trabajo. Thank you. Andoni Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country - Friday, April 22, 2005 Dear Paul, Incredible work. Truly one of the most thought-provoking pieces I've seen in ages. Thank you. Your film is, in fact, the first that I've seen in some time that I would readily buy at nearly any cost simply so that I might have the ability to show it to everyone I know, no matter their age. Please forgive what I know must be the most redundant question you receive, particularly after a broadcast...... will this brilliant work of yours ever be made available to the buying public? I would, believe it or not, consider buying the educational version of Power Trip despite the very large price tag, were that avenue available to me. I've not yet asked your producers, but I would imagine that this is not an option. I simply cannot get out of my head the myriad of venues -- from my local coffee house to my own living room -- in which your work could be used to stimulate deep discussions on an extremely broad range of issues. Your film simply Must be seen by more than the handful who so luckily stumbled upon its broadcast on-air. Warm regards, Willis Seyffert Willis Seyffert <seyffert5@earthlink.net> Altadena, CA USA - Sunday, April 10, 2005 Paul, Your cousin here... when does the film play in Edmonton? I remember you showing Pete and I bits and pieces a few years ago... love this type of documetary... more up my alley in terms of personal interest... let me know... Jme Jamie Hynes Sherwood Park, AB Canada - Thursday, March 03, 2005 I'm a student of Electrical Engineering (this year I'll be M.Sc.) of Warsaw University of Technology. I was really impressed watching this film today (Planete, Canal+ Poland). There is really long long way before AES in Georgia... Chris <klason@alpha.net.pl> Biala Podlaska, Poland - Tuesday, March 01, 2005 Couple of pages on your site are not working, but, anyway site is good :) Judi <webjudi@student-loan.go.ro> CHICAGO, IL USA - Tuesday, February 15, 2005 I saw Power Trip on PBS a week or so ago. It was wonderful. It has been so long since I've watched something that actually made me want to keep watching. I was relieved to learn about something new for a change, something that i couldn't bring any prior knowledge to. It's so easy to be unaware of things outside of my bubble. I'm so grateful I saw this. You'll never know how much I needed to get some more perspective to get me motivated. This is a wonderful wonderful film and I'm so glad you made it. If I had known it would effect me this way I would have popped in a VHS. Thank you so much. Annalise - Monday, February 07, 2005 Congratulations again Paul on an incredibly informitive piece of work- not to mention your film production skill. We saw the film for about the twentieth time on PBS last Sunday. We publicised it widely and have had much favorable comment back. How great it would be for masses of Americans to see Power Trip and be 'gobsmacked' as an academic friend was. It's a small world- we are seeing Scholey's parents-in-law on Saturday-they are neighbors would you believe. Rosalind and Geoff Rosalind/Geoff Lewis <wgeofflewis@hotmail.com - Tuesday, February 01, 2005 When I was in Georgia in 2002, I recall that the senior Georgian employee of AES-Telasi was murdered in his apartment (I believe he was shot when he answered the door). Was this in the movie? I saw it 30 Jan on WLVT-39 in SE Pennsylvania Tamaz Baratashvili <zoshchenko@yahoo.com> - Monday, January 31, 2005 Congratulations on your accomplishments! I am glad to see your struggles have paid off. I look forward to reading more of your work and I wish you the best in your future endeavors Adam <googleguy@google.com> Oswego, NY USA - Monday, January 31, 2005 This was an awesome piece! I am involved in the Ontario Electrical League and would love to find a place to BORROW a copy to show at our monthly meeting or at our Annual Conference. Is is available from any library type facility for educational use? I would love to watch it again! How lucky we are to be able to complain about our "Power System"! BARRETT D. Barrett Rutherford <rutherforddb@hotmail.com> Oshawa, Ontario, On Canada - Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Power Trip is what documentary film making should be about. A masterwork. Ted Dracos - Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Saw the movie last night and thought it was absolutely great. Thank you! Brittany Ft. Lauderdale, Fl USA - Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Saw the documentary on PBS last night and loved it. Congratulations. Iain McDonald - Wednesday, January 26, 2005 I first saw part of the film 'surfing' late at night on BBC4. I have missed the missed subsequent repeats - BBC4 published schedules are not very informative. Is the film available on DVD or can someone tell me when it will next be shown on BBC4. Thanks Peter Peter <pmiller056@aol.com> UK - Tuesday, August 03, 2004 I saw the film on TV some time ago but unfortunately missed the first half of it. I would really like to buy it on DVD/VHS so please post details on the website whenever it is available. Hope the DVD will have Georgian subtitles as well. Thanks and keep up the good work! David Zautasvili Tampere, Finland - Friday, July 23, 2004 Having lived in Georgia, I would dearly love to be able to get a copy of this on DVD. Trygve Inda <help@timepalette.com> Prague, Czech Republic - Monday, July 12, 2004 Why can't I buy a copy of the DVD? I understand you aren't going to release a copy of the soundtrack because of problems with licensing, but would that prevent you issuing a DVD as well? Thanks. John Haskell <haskell@online.ru> Houston, US - Sunday, June 27, 2004 This web site was sent to me by a relative of mine saying they know what I have been up to since I retired. It was nice to see and also see someone with the same name doing so well. Congratulations on your fine work. Paul Devlin NY United States - Wednesday, June 23, 2004 I'm looking forward to reading your comments here about my film POWER TRIP and our website. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome.
